FORD 4.6L 2V/4V BILLET OIL PUMP GEARS
This product is billet steel oil pump gears for Ford 4.6L modular 2-valve and 4-valve engines. The oil pumps on the Ford modular engines are mounted on the front of the block and driven directly by the crankshaft. This design is OK, but it does subject the oil pump to all the harmonics that the crankshaft sees. The stock oil pumps use weak powdered metal gears and tend to fracture and break when subject to harmonics. Broken oil pump gears will cause a loss in oil pressure, which can cause serve engine damage. We have seen several cases of Ford modular engines with superchargers added that have suffered from oil pump failures. We strongly recommend installing this oil pump before a supercharger is added. If you are rebuilding or repairing a Ford 4.6L 2-valve or 4-valve engine, we highly recommend you replace the oil pump and gears with this product.

This failure is most commonly seen in supercharged engines but can also happen due to detonation from bad fuel or a incorrect tune as well. Based on this we strongly recommended these Livernois Motorsports billet oil pump gears be installed before a supercharger is added to Ford modular engine. However we do not recommend putting new gears in a worn pump. So if you are adding a supercharger, rebuilding or repairing a Ford modular engine we highly recommend you replace the entire oil pump assemble.
